ULTRA-HIGH END IMAGE SENSORS: THE KODAK KAF CCD’s inside the LIECA S2, Hassleblad HSDII-50,SINAR Hy6-65
Looks like kodak has a firm grip on the ultra high quality image sensors. Looking at the site one sees A WHOLE bunch of really incredible sensors available. I wonder what other products they are going into.
The Sensor for the Leica S2 System is the KAF-37500 Kodak has announced its existence but hasn’t place the details of it on their site
“The new KODAK KAF-50100 Image Sensor was selected by Hasselblad for use in the HASSELBLAD H3DII-50, the top model of Hasselblad’s H3DII family and their fourth-generation medium-format camera. Twice the physical size of the largest 35mm DSLR image sensor, the 50 million pixel KAF-50100 sets a new resolution benchmark for the popular 48mm x 36mm optical format used in medium-format photography, while improving upon the quality and imaging performance available from the previous generation of KODAK sensors.”
“The KODAK KAF-50100 is a four output, high performance CCD (charge coupled device) image sensor with 8176(H) x 6132(V) photoactive pixels designed for a wide range of color image sensing applications. Each pixel contains anti-blooming protection by means of a lateral overflow drain (LOD) thereby preventing image corruption during high light level conditions. A Pulse Flush Gate (PFG) is available to remove charge from every pixel. A Fast Dump Gate (FDG) is available to selectively remove a line of charge during readout. Each of the 6.0um square pixels are selectively covered with red, green or blue pigmented filters for color separation. The sensor is housed in a 52 pin, PGA package with 100 mil pin spacing.”
“Fast image processing on board
The Sinar Hy6 65 images are captured with a 31 million pixel CCD sensor with an imaging area
that has almost twice the size of a full-frame 35mm camera system. Thanks to its QCIP
(QuadCore Image Processing) technology these Sinar Hy6 camera models are the first digital
medium format cameras with completely integrated digital image processing on board. Image
processing settings such as contrast, saturation, and noise suppression can be set directly on
the camera system for a fast and easy post-processing of the captured images.”
“The KAF-31600 is a dual output, high performance color array CCD (charge coupled device) image sensor with 6496(H) x 4872(V) 6.8µm square pixels, designed for a digital still camera applications. Each pixel contains anti-blooming protection to prevent image corruption during high light level conditions.
Each of the pixels are selectively covered with red, green or blue pigmented filters for color separation. Microlenses are added for improved sensitivity. The photoactive pixels are surrounded by a border of buffer and light-shielded pixels. Total chip size is 46.05 mm x 35.0 mm and is housed in a 60 pin, 2.200” x 1.870” dual in line ceramic package with 0.070” pin spacing.”
